Each student in the course will research, develop, and compose an essay of approximately 1500 words addressing an ethically significant social, political, or cultural question at issue. Working from a clearly arguable thesis, the student should, with this essay: 1) detail the question at issue, 2) explain its ethical significance in light of one or more appropriate ethical theories (addressed in this course or otherwise familiar to the author), and 3) draw from relevant ethical theories in order to argue how the issue can be productively addressed or resolved. In this essay, the author will address the same issue as s/he addresses in her/his Making a Case speech.
