Income and wealth inequality in the US

Although the US economy has experienced dramatic growth since 1900, income and wealth inequality today have increased over this period. Today, 1% of the US population has 40% of the country’s wealth; the top 20% have 90%; the remaining 80% of the population have 10% of the country’s wealth. Why do you think this is the case, and how do you propose we address this issue?
