Following up on the reading from Christopher Small’s book “Musicking” you will write a paper thoroughly addressing the following:
1) Highlight 3 points that you either agree or disagree with, using in-text citations as a way to draw specific focus to the writing that you are assessing. For each, provide an analysis of why, or why not, you agree with the concept in question.
2) Define the term ‘musicking’ in your own language and experience, relating it to your personal relationship with music, citing specific circumstances that lead you to this definition. In what roles have you acted as a participant in the musicking process.
3) Complete a ‘musicking’ workflow of a musical work of your choice. Include as many of the discreet roles involved in this singular musical act as possible. Your selection can be from any genre, time period, or culture, and you do not need to name specific people, only the different roles embodied in the act of musicking. Make sure to be creative – we might not have evidence of every person who had a role in the process, so be imaginative as to who else you think deserves inclusion in this workflow. Provide names for the role when available (composer, performers, producers, engineers, financiers, etc.)
4) Include a works cited that includes an MLA citation for Christopher Small’s book “Musicking” as well as the musical selection you are analyzing for step 3.
