Part A: Novel Jacket Cover
Review the covers of the novel that have been used in various publications over time. The latest offering from Amazon, for instance, lacks appeal because it does not reflect the tone contained within Orwell’s work.
Design your own jacket cover. You may do this with the use of imagery that is already available online or you may draw your own cover, but take care to produce a cover that is absolutely original. Be sure to include the title of the novel and the name of the author.
Check out this example jacket cover created by an ENG2D student: Animal Farm by George Orwell .
Part B: Speeches Comparison
Choose two speeches from the novel for use in an audio recording. You may find longer speeches by Napoleon, Snowball, Boxer, and Squealer come to mind, as we mentioned in an earlier question, but be sure the speeches you choose will allow you to produce an audio clip of at least three minutes. Record both speeches using the rhetorical devices (tone, pitch, repetition, emphasis, etc.) that will become the most stirring, the most convincing presentations.
In a one to two page written reflection, indicate how you differentiated between the two voices, which devices you concentrated upon, and which recording you felt was more successful.
Part C: Novel Review
Advertisements for the novel will be aired on media and included in online sites such as Amazon.
Write a promotional piece of at least two pages in which you outline why the novel is worth reading, what it contains in terms of theme and plot, and which audience would be most interested in purchasing the novel. Include a rating of up to five stars when evaluating the work, and justify your assessment of however many stars you choose to award.
Part D: Reflection
Write a half page reflection addressing the following questions:
1Which aspects of this assignment were more or less interesting to you? Why?
2Which part(s) of this assignment are you proud of?
3Which area do you feel you could improve?
4Did you gain any insight or develop any questions about how media functions?
