Organism/viruses (just change the example to the name of your gene)

Go to www.uniprot and search for your protein in the search box e.g. NanH
Click on the correct blue entry number
Scroll down the page, you will see the protein sequence. To get the DNA sequence, go to the Sequence databases section
Click on one of the blue links to genomic DNA
Allow to download
Under the blue title that starts “navigation”, click on sequence and make sure you download all the nucleotide sequence

For Ebola virus, simply put the name of the organism and the name of the gene into Uniprot and continue as above. It is an RNA virus NOT DNA.

For genetic disease/ cancer
Go to OMIM
Type in the disease name and gene e.g. Cystic fibrosis
Open the first page that is listed and then use control F to search for your mutation by name e.g. ?508
There are 3 ways of getting sequence information:
Click the blue number in brackets to the right of the mutation ?508 and then follow the links.
On the right of the page click on DNA and then on the links
OR
Go to Uniprot as above and access your gene via the encoded protein.
