Personal Statement for fellowship application in Breast Imaging

Write a personal statement for fellowship applications. The fellowship is Breast Imaging which is a sub-specialty of Diagnostic Radiology. Below are highlights and directions;
• Estimated 287,850 new cases of breast cancer in the US during 2022 with an estimated 43,250 deaths. Early detection of cancer with curable intervention is at the forefront of my passion as a developing radiologist. I have interest in all aspects of preventative screening to include prostate MRI and low dose chest CT, however, the full spectrum of patient care and continuously evolving practice, align with my future career interests. Coupling life experience with values of compassion and perseverance, I have quite a bit offer to the subspecialty.
• Having lost 2 grandparents to colon cancer, I have a strong interest in preventative healthcare and understand the value of early screening regarding cancer in general. During my surgical rotation in medical school, I couldn’t help but notice patients experiencing life changing events related to the diagnosis of breast cancer. During residency I reconnected with this interest during my breast imaging rotation. I want to apply this passion to breast imaging and incorporate preventive screening into my daily practice. Breast imaging means more to me than just reading another study off the list. Breast imaging fellowship will provide the avenue I desire to build competency in all breast imaging modalities and procedures to accomplish early detection and intervention in a way that means more to me than just reading another study off the list. Early and accurate detection of breast cancer means giving a person the ultimate gift, life. In many cases it means giving a person the gift of resetting the clock that was running out faster than expected, or even allowing the opportunity for a child to grow up with their mother rather than have her taken too early. My wife and daughter mean the world to me. Being a competent radiology in breast imaging means I will have addition tools to detect and/or prevent early breast cancer, giving patients more time with the ones they love most.
