Suitable employment with Verizon Wireless

Congratulations! Four weeks ago, you completed your B.A. at Curry College, and already you have found suitable employment with Verizon Wireless as an online customer care representative.

While you were in training for the position, you learned that, among the many the perks of your new job, you get a salary bonus for each smart phone you sell to an existing Verizon customer. Upgrading pays!

Noticing from my account profile that I still use an old Verizon flip phone, you have decided to reach out to me as your first target for an upgrade. Of course, since I’m a writing instructor, you wisely decide that the best way to convince me that the time has come for me to upgrade to smart technology is to write me a persuasive letter.

Remembering our discussion of rhetoric (i.e., writing persuasively by shaping your content in accordance with audience, purpose, and form), your task now is to sit down and compose a formal letter to me that will convince me to upgrade my old flip phone.

In order to craft a successful appeal, you have to figure out a few things about me, your audience, first. Will I be open to the idea of paying for an upgrade to smart technology? Will smart technology provide me with certain advantages which will make purchase worthwhile? How will you appeal to me to make this switch?
