The “Stolen Skiff”

Description

In the “Stolen Skiff” episode of Book 1st of The Prelude, Wordsworth recounts a “sublime” experience he had. The middle portion of ”Tintern Abbey” (lines 23-112) also describes Wordsworth’s experience of the sublime; in fact, he actually uses the word “sublime” a couple of times in “Tintern Abbey” (line 38 and 96, respectively).

Please choose one of the two poems above and answer the following: What is “sublime” about Wordsworth’s experience? That is, what characteristics, processes and/or outcomes are involved in Wordsworth’s experience of sublimity?
