ESSAY GUIDANCE
The focus of this question is on addressing the nature of Criminology. As explained in the unit materials, there is no universal agreement as to what criminology is. Part of a response to this is the case in relation to Radical Criminology and Right Wing Criminology.

OVERALL ESSAY GUIDANCE
Please note that the question requires you to perform a particular task in relation to demonstrating your understanding of the Criminological theories. You should therefore always keep the question in mind with all the material you include in your essay (constantly ask yourself /is this relevant to the essay title/question, if so is this clear to the reader/marker’?

This normally involves simply explaining and describing the various Criminological theories, identifying key advocates and offering criticisms and evaluations of each approach. Your approach to the essay should therefore be to address the question which does not ask that simply explain describe and criticise the theories.

It is also not necessary to begin each essay explaining that Criminology contains multiple approaches which have been advanced over the last three centuries. This point is assumed by the question which is why you are asked to focus your attention on two different approaches (Right Wing Criminology and Radical Criminology).
