Understanding of the social problem.

The book gave examples of how the same social problem could be analyzed differently using various community theories. You will do this for the social problem of poor quality schools in impoverished areas. Our political system requires that public schools receive some state monies but that much of their funding is from local property taxes, which are proportional to the value of the property. This has resulted in a wide variation in levels of funding available for schools in different neighborhoods/municipalities.

You will analyze this social problem using three theoretical perspectives: structural theories, functionalist theories, and conflict theories. Explain the social problem identified above from the viewpoint of each perspective, using key aspects of the theory in your explanation. Then, consider what a social worker using each theory might do about it to better the situation, based on their understanding of the social problem.
