Functional organisational politics

Although many people view organisational politics in a negative light or one that causes dysfunction, it can be an effective strategy.
Think of an organisation you are familiar with (personally or through the media) and provide an example of a successful (positive/ethical) application or of organisational politics or an example of dysfunctional (negative/unethical) organisational politics.
