Leader-Member Exchange

Description
The Leader-Member Exchange focuses on the exclusive relationship based exchange between leaders and followers (Nahavandi, 2015). The leader-member exchange model includes the leader and an in group and out group. The in group have a high quality relationship with the leader and the out-group have a low quality relationship with the leader (Nahavandi, 2015). As a result of these differences members of the in and out group both have different experiences with the leader (Nahavandi, 2015). Those in the in group have respect, trust, and the leaders support and attention. While those in the out group receive less attention and may perform poorly. In contrast, the Social Network Theory describes the individual as a node and the relationship to others within the network as ties (Liu, Sidhu, Beacom, & Valente, 2017). The Social Network Theory model can be described as a network of ties connected by individuals or nodes (Liu, Sidhu, Beacom, & Valente, 2017). The two theories compare because they both show relationships and how people interact with each other return
